🔥 The Cook Up — Live Beat-Making, Freestyles & Performances HOW THE NIGHT WORKS Doors open at 8 PM. DJ plays while people arrive. Show starts at 9 PM and runs until 2 AM. The night cycles through 3 core segments: 🎹 BEAT COOK-UPS (Live Production) Producers set up CENTER OF THE ROOM — screens visible to everyone. Sample Pack Cook-Off: each producer gets ~15 min to flip a preset sample pack into a beat live. Crowd votes for the best. Pass The Aux: producers can sign up for 3-min slots to showcase their own beats. Freestylers rap over these during freestyle rounds. 🎤 FREESTYLES — 8-Bar Baton Pass Each freestyler gets exactly 8 bars. Mic always passes LEFT. 8-Bar Counter on the TVs syncs to BPM: bars 1-5 GREEN (spit), 6-7 YELLOW (wrap up), 8 RED (pass). Word Board: audience writes challenge words for freestylers to work in. Rules: 8 bars only | Mic passes left | Choke = pass, come back next round | Go over or grab mic = sit out | Three strikes = done for the night 🎶 PERFORMANCES 6 artists per event, selected from sign-ups on the Cantus app. 10 minutes each — curate your own set however you want. No performing over backtracks. Proper mic technique required. NIGHT FLOW 8-9 PM: Doors + DJ → Cook-Up 1 + Freestyle Round 1 → Performance Block 1 (2 artists) → Cook-Up 2 + Freestyle Round 2 → Performance Block 2 (2 artists) → Cook-Up 3 + Freestyle Round 3 → Performance Block 3 (2 artists) → THE GULAG — Free-for-all to close the night (no rules, open mic, just vibes)
